Changing the meaning of rm, sf etc.

To make it easy to typeset documents with other font families (like Times Roman, Optima etc.) we maintain seven additional macros

verbatim71#
denoting the family chosen by 51, 52, 53 or the series chosen by 54 or the shape for 55, 56 and 57, respectively.6 If, for example, a document should be typeset in sans serif one could add in the preamble (between 58 and 59) the following redefinitions:
verbatim72#
The first line means that whenever 60 is called the family <#219#>cmss<#219#> (i.e. computer modern sans serif) is chosen and the second line redefines 61 to switch to the slanted shape since this family hasn't got an <#220#>italic<#220#> shape. Another possible use is to say
verbatim73#
This will redefine 62 to select the bold instead of the bold extended series which is the current default. However these commands are probably ignored by document styles for journals which decide to use their own font families in the final print.
